Description

Palki (Palanquin)- Palanquin derives its name from the Sanskrit term ‘palamki’ for bed or the couch, and later on, the British called it ‘Palan Queen’.

The Palki or Palanquin has been an important mode of transport since time immemorial. It was a luxury on the part of the pre-modern aristocratic and affluent people to move in palanquins, which were of many sizes and designs. This painting is the third one of the Bangaliana series. The series contains a total of 5 paintings.
