Roses are Red

These red roses are inspired by the florist in my neighborhood, a shop I pass almost every day and always slow down to look at. The roses there are full and confident, grouped closely together, each one holding its shape like it knows it’s being noticed. I painted them from memory—thick petals opening in layers, shifting in different shades of red. The stems twist together naturally.

This painting isn’t about big romance. It’s about familiarity and closeness. About seeing the same roses over and over and still being drawn to them.
